  • How difficult is it to cut your own hair with clippers?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under cut my own hair | 4 Comments »

I always get my hair cut short. The last time I got it cut, they used clippers with a #1 attachments around the sides and I think a #2 attachment for the rest. No scissors at all. This got me thinking about doing this myself at home. Anyone have any experience with using clippers on thier own hair? I’m interested in saving the time/expense of going to the barber and I’m not affraid to make a mistake or two.

If you want to cut your own hair, invest in a good pair of clippers. Adjustable ones are better because you can cut different lengths and even shave with them. Wahl, Andis, and Oyster Pro are good clippers and usually run from $25-$50. Make sure it’s the set which includes guards #1 to #4, clipper oil, comb and clipper brush. When you cut your hair, it helps to do it in front of a mirror. Comb your hair in the direction you’ll cut it. Using your choice guard, cut hair in same direction, until hair is even.(hint: going against hair grain results in shorter cut). For the sides, if you want them lower, switch back to lower guard and do the same. After you’ve done it once or twice, you’ll find it’s very easy and you can cut it to your liking. Just be patient.
