This is a vid on how I trim my hair between professional stylist visits. My hair grows slowly, so I only go to a stylist once or twice a year. I have a long haired guinea pig and I noticed his bangs are shorter than they used to be and are shorter than the rest of his fur. It’s almost as if someone has cut them but I know no one has. Do they gnaw off hair in front of their face?
I know it would seem that logically they must, but I thought maybe their hair naturally gets shorter in the front as they grow older.

No, they do not do this at all.

First of all, long haired guinea pigs are created by people. There is no such thing as a long haired wild guinea pig. Long haired piggies need people to trim and groom them, while short haired piggies do not. if you leave a long haired piggy in the wild, it would most likely end up dying from all the things that would call its matted hair their home.

Second, guinea pigs, just like people, are constantly shedding some hair, and growing new hair in place of it. It is very possible for the attributes of hair (like colour, texture, and thus length) to change as the piggy grows older, especially as it reaches sexual maturity. The guinea pig’s hair is shedding, and growing in a slightly different texture, which causes it to appear shorter. It may also be shorter simply because the hair is new and has not had much time to grow.

Or there is always the possability your piggy stuck his head into an active vent or something, lol! (hope not :S)
